Carrier Fabricating is currently accepting applications for a Journeyman Fabricator for our Prince George Fabrication Shop.

The candidate must be: reliable, punctual, highly motivated, and proficient at troubleshooting. S/he will be highly skilled with fabrication techniques involved in the fabrication and manufacture of custom machinery and projects. Must be able to work effectively in a team environment. The candidate will excel at reading and understanding fabrication drawings and CAD drawings.

Carrier Lumber Ltd. is currently accepting applications for a Journeyman Millwright for our Tabor Sawmill and Planer.

The Millwright is responsible for installing or dismantling machinery and equipment according to company plans, blueprints, and other diagrams. This will be accomplished through the safe and effective use of hoists, rigging, lift trucks, hand tools, and power tools. This position also requires that the Millwright to troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic problems with associated equipment. The Millwright is also responsible for repairing or replacing malfunctioning equipment, such as motors, pumps, valves, controls, and other machines.

DUTIES:

  • Perform maintenance work involving climbing, rigging, and working at heights in accordance with all company safety procedures.
  • Install, align, maintain, dismantle and overhaul machinery, such as pumps, heavy mechanical equipment, conveyor systems, pulleys, mechanical clutches, gear boxes, hydraulic and pneumatic control systems.
  • Start up and shuts down equipment in line with company safety procedures for equipment under power and OHAS requirements.
  • Install power drives in correct position, and align power shafts and pulleys. Install and/or changes the layout of machines and mechanical equipment in the plant.
  • Use hoists, forklift trucks, rollers or trolleys to move machinery. Frequently work with electricians or other tradespeople to complete dismantling or installation jobs.
  • Repair any problems associated with new equipment.
  • Make or repair machine guards and install on machinery. Check guards to assure that they have enclosed equipment properly. Notifies supervisor of potential hazards and corrective action are taken or documented.
  • Perform repairs on all equipments in the plant, including hydraulic, pneumatic and electrically driven equipment within Federal and Provincial standards.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Perform preventative maintenance once the machines and equipment are put into operation.

The ideal candidate must be highly motivated, possess good communications skills and be ready to learn and embrace new concepts. Experience working in sawmills a considerable asset.

Ensuring the sustainable use of British Columbia’s forests and upkeep of Carrier’s environmental values, the Stewardship Forester is an integral part of the Carrier forestry team. You will assist with the development, monitoring and evaluation of forest management standards, strategies and management practices.

As the Stewardship Forester, you will be responsible for all maintenance and upkeep on the existing SFI Certification system as well as execution of all silviculture requirements for the entirety of Carrier Lumber’s British Columbia operations. Assisting with the review of strategic and operational plans, you will develop operational goals that comply with the Forest Act, Forest and Range Practices Act, and other relevant legislation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The Stewardship Forester will be a results-oriented individual with a focus on accuracy and reliability. A self-starter, your excellent organizational and communications skills will make you an invaluable part of a tight-knit team of forestry professionals. Your experience with all aspects of certification and fluency with technology make you a prepared employee.

Required qualifications:

  • Registered Professional Forester / Registered Professional Forestry Technician designation
  • Minimum of 3 years of directly related experience
  • Knowledgeable in current forest legislation

Preference may be given to those experienced with:

  • Supervisial experience
  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
