Carrier Lumber Ltd. has an immediate opening for a Sawmill Graveyard Cleanup Supervisor at our Tabor Mill.

THE QUALIFICATIONS:

The Sawmill Cleanup Supervisor will provide leadership in safety by demonstrating and ensuring the adherence to company safety processes and procedures with all unionized, hourly employees as well as contractors. This individual will support and identify cost saving opportunities and the analysis of downtime reports and other relevant metrics. They will work with mill management to develop action plans to increase efficiencies and equipment reliability. This individual will direct unionized cleanup personnel and contractors to ensure all equipment operates at its highest capability to meet production schedules with a focus on quality and cost priorities.

  • Education preferred: Valid trade certificate or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers license
  • Dependable, efficient, professional with strong interpersonal and analytical skills

THE DUTIES:

  • Develop graveyard shift schedules, while optimizing the cleanliness and safety of the plant.
  • Supervise day to day cleanup activities as well as critical repairs with an overall focus to improve safety and productivity while minimizing downtime.
  • Establishment of cleanup standards and procedures for workers and ensure adherence to these standards and procedures.
  • Ensure hourly and contractor awareness and compliance with safety, environmental and operational policy, procedures and regulations.
  • Hire, train, mentor and manage performance of hourly cleanup employees.

THE QUALIFICATIONS

We are currently accepting applications for CWB Certified Welders for our Prince George shop. Other qualifications include:

  • CWB certification
  • Shop experience
  • Welding with MCAW and FCAW in flat position
  • Highly motivated with good communications skills

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • First Aid ticket considered an asset

THE QUALIFICATIONS:

The Tabor Shift Millwright will be an exceptional troubleshooter and always learn and embrace new concepts. They will have the ability to work well with others at all levels and should be a motivated, self-starter.

  • Education Required: Valid Inter-Provincial Journeyperson Red Seal certification. 3rd or 4th year apprentices will be considered
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers license
  • Able to do shift work. 12hr shifts. (2 on 2 off, 3 on 2 off, 2 on 3 off. Every second weekend off 3 days)
  • Strong interpersonal and analytical skills
  • Must be dependable, efficient, professional and have a positive attitude

THE DUTIES:

  • Troubleshoot hydraulics
  • Weld and fabricate as needed
  • Install and set clearances on high speed bearings
  • Change chipping knives daily
  • Perform running P.M. checks on various machines centers
  • Chase whistles in a fast paced environment

The successful candidate will be a self-starter with excellent organization, computer, communication, and team skills.  The candidate must have proven skills related to all facets of forestry operations and field work.  Field experience is a definite asset.

The following qualifications are preferred:

  • A minimum of 2 years related experience
  • Proficient in current technology, GIS knowledge an asset
  • Registered, or eligible for registration, with the Association of Saskatchewan Forest Professionals
  • Knowledgeable in current forest legislation
  • Valid driver’s License with a clean abstract

THE DUTIES:

Based out of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan and under the direct supervision of the Woodlands Superintendent, the Woodlands Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of the harvesting and field operations for operations in Saskatchewan.

  • Manage contractor safety, performance, and environmental leadership in the operations
  • Plan and execute annual road, harvest and post-harvest programs
  • Implements Log Quality program for Contractors
  • Professional interaction with Government personnel and industry partners
  • Other duties related to operations

  • Fitting structural steel shapes, plate work and custom fabrications
  • Working with steel fabrication techniques, steel grades and shapes
