THE OPPORTUNITY:

Come work on one of the largest cattle ranches in British Columbia! Our 1200-pair, cow-calf operation sprawls over 8,000 deeded acres, just 15 minutes northwest of Prince George. Bar K Ranch was the first BC beef operation registered with the Verified Beef Production program and has recently received its AgSafe OHS Certificate of Recognition (COR).

THE QUALIFICATIONS:

We are looking for a seasonal ranch employee to work calving and/or harvest season. Taking pride in your work, problem solving abilities and a proactive attitude are the strengths needed. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the ranching industry and respect for all animals while working in a low-stress environment. Past experience with calving on pasture, cattle ranching, or veterinary care is a considerable asset. Experience with harvesting, farming or operating equipment also an asset.

THE DUTIES:

  • Assist with calving, tagging, dehorning, castrating and calf inventory on pasture
  • Assist with treating sick cows and calves
  • Herding cattle between pastures
  • Feeding cattle as needed
  • Helping with the farming and harvest in later months (machine operating experience an asset)
  • Adhering to strict health, safety and environmental protocols

This is a fulltime, seasonal position. However, shifts may fall on any day of the week, at any hour of the day. Calving season runs 7 days a week. Work term would either be March 1- May 31 for calving, or March 1 – September 30 for calving, farming and harvest. Start and end dates are flexible for students.

Hourly wage determined by experience. Housing is available as well for the right candidate. Preference is given to agriculture or veterinary students looking for hands-on experience.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

The Mobile Equipment Shop, a department of Carrier Manufacturing, is currently looking for a Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic.

THE QUALIFICATIONS

We are currently accepting applications for a Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic for our Prince George shop. Other qualifications include:

  • Red Seal Certification
  • Shop experience
  • Highly motivated with good communications skills
  • Excellent time management and organization
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • CAT Experience- familiarity with SIS and ET considered an asset

  • Daily Maintenance on Heavy Equipment
  • Heavy Equipment rebuilding

THE QUALIFICATIONS:

The Journeyman Millwright will be an exceptional troubleshooter and always learn and embrace new concepts. They will have the ability to work well with others at all levels and should be a motivated, self-starter.

  • Education Required: Valid Inter-Provincial Journeyperson Red Seal electrical certification.
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers license.
  • Work on shifts, including nights or weekends.

THE DUTIES:

  • Communicate with other departments about any production issues.
  • Welding and fabricating, troubleshoot hydraulics
  • Install and set clearances on high speed bearings
  • Change chipper knives
  • Perform running PM checks on various machine centers
  • Chase whistles in a fast paced environment

THE QUALIFICATIONS:

The Metal Fabricator Estimator will be a detail oriented individual with a proactive attitude. They will have the ability to work well with others at all levels and should be a motivated self-starter who is comfortable working alone. They will need to seek solutions, take initiative and respond to change. The individual should be willing to look at and handle real/practical problems, as well as CAD drawings and specialized equipment, such as our plasma cutting table.

The following qualifications are preferred:

  • Mechanical Engineering Technologist
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Steel Estimating
  • Technically capable and safety driven
  • Occupational First Aid is a bonus

THE DUTIES:

  • Cost estimating for Fabrication Projects
  • Interpreting blueprints, engineer drawings and experience with Auto CAD
  • Prepare quotes and material takeoffs

The Inventory and Maintenance Coordinator will be a detail oriented individual with a proactive attitude.  They will have the ability to work well with others at all levels and should be a motivated self-starter who is comfortable working alone.  This is a physical job working both in and out of doors in all weather conditions.

The following qualifications are preferred:

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Functional use of Microsoft Word, Excel and email programs. 
  • Mechanical Background.
  • Practical experience with welding, electrical, and hydraulics. Training in heavy equipment operation, health and safety, and environmental practices would be an asset.

THE DUTIES:

Inventory:

    • Liaises with the Big River Sawmill and Planer Manager, Maintenance Supervisor and Electrical Supervisor to identify preferred specifications and deliveries of parts, materials and services.
    • Coordinates all purchasing of parts, materials and services through the Purchasing Manager.
    • Liaises with courier and delivery companies as required.
    • Performs physical inventory tallies of logs and lumber, every second weekend, in accordance with Company protocol.

Maintenance:

    • Coordinating all services and repairs for buildings.
    • Participates in both troubleshooting and identifying proactive maintenance requirements, as needed to sustain production.

THE QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will have experience working with fences of all types (barbed wire, electric, wood). They will have some heavy duty equipment training and knowledge of best practices around farm animals. The ideal candidate will be an all-around ‘handyman’ and will be detail-oriented, organized and respectful. Experience with plumbing and/or electrical is considered an asset.

THE DUTIES:

  • Assess and repair large tracts of fencing (barbed wire and electric)

  • Read GPS maps and locate fence repair needs

  • Use a chainsaw to clear paths along fences (chainsaw certificate an asset)

  • Basic carpentry skills for fixing corrals, paddocks, and infrastructure

  • Basic knowledge of plumbing and electrical for maintenance fixes around ranch houses and structures

  • Machine operating experience an asset for alternate jobs, as needed

This is a full time seasonal, or full time year-round position for the right candidate. Hourly wage determined by experience. Benefits and housing may be available as well for the right candidate.

  • Must have 3-5 years’ experience with Farming and Harvesting.
  • GPS and Auto-Steer experience is an asset.
  • Applicant should have a strong mechanical background and be familiar with operating and maintaining large farm equipment and implements.

THE DUTIES:

The type of work will include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Tractor operation,
  • Field work such as: Spraying, Seed Bed Prep
  • Harvesting Silage and Hay Crop,
  • Fencing as needed.
  • Feeding cattle during winter months.
